AFTER turning in a very good showing in their victory over Bermuda last month, the Bahamas Rugby Union is all set to take its men’s national team to the Turks and Caicos Islands on Thursday to compete in another international event this weekend.
The team held a scrimmage game at the Winton rugby pitch on Saturday and team manager John Gates said he was impressed with the level of preparation that the players put in.
“If everything goes well, we should come out with the victory,” said Gates as they get ready to take on Turks and Caicos. “We played them about a year ago and we beat them in the Turks, so hopefully we can get the same results when we go back to play them. We just have to stay aggressive so that we can continue to move up in the rankings.”
The Bahamas is currently ranked about No.83 in the world and about fourth in the Caribbean. If they are successful against the Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas will have a chance to be promoted back to the North Caribbean Division One. The team is now playing in Division II.
The head coach is Manoli Roussos and he will be assisted by Andrew Brown. The players making up the team are as follows:
Charles Smith, Garfield Morrison, Patrick Arthur, Lashon Bain, Dan Woodside, Kevin Salabie, Kevin Charlton, Michael Walkine, Duran Beadle, Kevin Deveaux, Andre Bodie, Gio Rolle, Justin Cartwright, Dorian Butler, Lavar Boyd, Sasha Klonaris, Kyle Charlton, Shawn Albury, Jamal Curry, Terrell Thompson, Julian Waldron, Ryan Knowles and Arman Carlos.
The team is slated to play Turks and Caicos 3pm Saturday and scheduled to return home on Sunday.
