TWO men armed with a handgun and posing as Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) workers robbed a woman at her home on Thursday.
According to police, the woman who was at her Constitution Drive home, was robbed of a small amount of cash and a set of keys before fleeing on foot. It happened at around 12.30pm, police said.
While authorities said their investigations are continuing into the case, BEC officials released a statement saying that in all instances their employees should have a corporation-issued identification card with a full name and their photo.
It read: “Without commenting on a matter under active police investigation, BEC would like to make its customers and the general public aware of its typical policies with regard to employee identification. In all instances, BEC employees, in contact with customers (e.g. Disconnectors and/or Meter Readers), should have a Corporation-issued identification card with the person’s name and photo attached. Additionally, this card has unique identifiers including the company’s logo and is endorsed by a company executive.”
In addition BEC said that in most cases the individual may also be wearing an official, corporate-issue uniform which is either a light blue or dark shirt embossed with BEC’s logo and dark blue pants.
The Corporation encouraged all customers, who may be concerned about an individual purporting to be an employee, to contact the Corporation’s Administration Office at 302-1000 during normal business hours, 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday.
Customers may also contact BEC’s emergency numbers at 302-1800/ 323-5561 on weekends or outside its normal business hours, the statement said.

Comrades outside of an rare emergency and only after being asked to be attend to by the BEC customer resident, what possible reason could there be to require a BEC employee to have to enter the private residence of a BEC customer?

UNFORTUNATELY if someone rings your doorbell claiming to be BEC workers your first reaction is to interact with them. You either assume they come to cut you off or something is wrong. One woman says they were telling her that the last payment she made was not showing up on her account. Apparently she was saved from being robbed when a neighbor pulled up. The "workers" told her she needed to go to BEC office to sort the matter out then they left in a hurry

Why the dumb response though? How close do you have to get to the "BEC" employee to see the company logo and the signature of the executive? How do you know the signature you're looking at is the executives signature anyway? If i created a fake badge glued on the BEC logo and signed it myself which customer would know the difference? How easy is it to buy a light blue shirt and dark pants. My rule is never open the door for anyone I don't know. That includes Jehovah witnesses, i guess they'll soon start trying that one too

Blackout AGAIN. Two days in a row. What happens if we lose power for the two days of the IAAF? Our leaders are just plain awful, everybody either lifting bags of money out the treasury, watching someone else lift bags put the treasury and asking for their cut or too dumb and incompetent to notice people moving the bags e.g. Auditor general's findings
