EDITOR, The Tribune.
With this letter I would like to express my gratitude for the kind help and the friendly service of Mrs Vandetta Moorshead, manager customer experience at Lynden Pinding International Airport.
Here is my story.
I am a Dutch national, visiting The Bahamas since 1992. I love your country and its beauty, the friendliness and kindness of the Bahamian people.
On February 3, 2015, I was travelling by Blue Jet to Fort Lauderdale and then connecting with a flight to Las Vegas in USA to visit a very dear friend of mine whom I have not seen for more than 13 years. She surprised me with a present – sending me a digital airplane ticket to visit her in Las Vegas.
When I went to the check in at the desk, the employee of Blue Jet explained to me that I would not be able to get on the flight without an electronical visa, for which I was supposed to apply before even purchasing the ticket.
I am a Dutch national and The Netherlands is between one of the European countries in the programme for visa waver, but I did not know that after the events in 2001 the system was changed and I could not travel with a green card presenting it at USA immigration as before, but only with an applied on line for electronical visa in advance.
I contacted my friend in Las Vegas and told her I won’t be able to depart and visit her. She was very emotional and started crying.
I was really desperate, until the moment I asked a young Bahamian lady at the airport if she could help me with her I phone, because I did not have access to a computer and Internet.
I am sorry I did not ask her name to say thank you to her too. She was very kind and went to ask in the office of Mrs Moorshead if she could assist me.
I have no words to express my gratitude and appreciation for her help.
After a lot of effort and time, finally I could get an approval for travelling and, thanks to Mrs Moorshead, and the young Bahamian lady, I could board 20 minutes before departure on the flight. Otherwise my ticket would not be valid any more and would be cancelled.
I have been travelling in many countries around the world, being myself in the tourist and travel industry, but I must say that I have never experienced such friendliness and kind concern as was shown to me in this situation – like to just a human being.
Mrs Moorshead even came to look for me in the departure hall to be sure I would be travelling.
I really hope that the management of the airport authorities at Lynden Pindling International Airport will appraise the excellent customer service of an employee like Mrs Moorshead.
Every company will be proud to have her in its staff.
When I return to The Netherlands, I will share this experience with everybody there and tell them of the friendliness and the kindness of these Bahamian ladies and the people of The Bahamas.
You have really to be proud being Bahamians and with your beautiful islands.
With a lot of respect and sincere regards,
VIRINEYA FYNHEER
