THE Anglican Central Education Authority yesterday received hundreds of school textbooks courtesy of a generous donation from the Urban Renewal Commission.

At a press conference at the office of the Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas yesterday morning, Urban Renewal Co-Chairs Cynthia “Mother” Pratt and Algernon Allen presented Anglican Bishop Laish Boyd and other officials with grammar and mathematics books for use in the diocese’s four schools.

“We’re giving something back to the Anglican Diocese, the educational establishment that has been such a powerful force in shaping the lives and transforming the lives in the Bahamas over a century here in our beloved country,” Mr Allen said yesterday.

Upon being officially presented with the donation, Bishop Boyd said: “As an Anglican family we are extremely grateful, and we shall put them to good use. We ask that (Urban Renewal) continue your good work of building our Bahamas.”

According to Mr Allen, the textbooks donated yesterday range from the primary level to the tertiary level. He said yesterday’s donation was “but a sample” of “hundreds of thousands” of textbooks donated to the Urban Renewal Commission by the Cacciatore family in Florida.

The four Anglican schools that will benefit from yesterday’s donation are St John’s and St Anne’s in New Providence, Bishop Michael Eldon in Grand Bahama and St Andrews in Exuma.
