A MAN was arraigned in Magistrate’s Court yesterday accused of helping a “wanted” suspect evade arrest in the January 25 fatal shooting of Royal Bahamas Defence Force marine Angelo Dorsette.
Lashawn Bowe, 30, of Matthew Street stood before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt facing multiple criminal charges, the most serious being accessory after the fact to murder.
It is claimed that he, knowing that Emmanuel Rolle had allegedly committed the offence of murder, helped him to avoid arrest.
Rolle, 25, was arraigned five days after Dorsette’s slaying at the G-Spot nightclub at Faith Avenue north.
According to police reports at the time of the shooting, a gunman shot out the front door of the nightclub and entered in search of another man but then began firing indiscriminately into the crowded bar as patrons scrambled to escape.
The Taylor Street resident was charged with murder under Section 291 (1B) of the Penal Code, Chapter 84, which does not attract the discretionary death penalty if a jury finds him guilty.
Rolle was further charged with causing public terror and two counts of attempted murder as it is claimed he discharged a firearm with intent to cause public terror to Tameko Coleby and Victron Burrows, whom he allegedly tried to kill.
The same charges and particulars were laid against Bowe in yesterday’s arraignment.
He was also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life as it is claimed that he shot at two police officers on August 13 during their attempt to arrest him.
He was not required to enter a plea to any of the charges and returns to Magistrate’s Court on October 15 where the matter will be fast-tracked to Supreme Court.
He was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services.
