EDITOR, The Tribune.
THE more I hear from Attorney Wayne Munroe — the less I respect his intellect. Mr Munroe’s call for The Bahamas to begin flogging illegal immigrants as a means of deterrence is nothing short of asinine!
The Bahamas is, of course, a sovereign nation and can therefore enact any law it chooses. By the same token, friends and allies of The Bahamas will be free to choose whether to associate and do business with a country that, in search of policy prescriptions, has harkened back to the “Dark Ages”.
Does Wayne Munroe seriously believe that the international community and most especially the United States upon whom The Bahamas is so heavily dependent would ever countenance the state violence against illegal immigrants that he is advocating?
After all, we are talking about a country that has engaged in a long running, very contentious debate about and is still generally opposed to the use of physical violence as a means of extracting information even from terrorists.
Were The Bahamas to journey down the path advocated by Mr Munroe, human rights organisations the world over would come down on us like a ton of bricks. Not to mention the damage that would be done to our already fragile tourism industry.
Wayne Munroe has a reputation as an excellent attorney — and he might well be — but some of Mr Munroe’s most recent pronouncements leave a helluva lot be desired.
“Flogger Wayne”
Hello my name is ‘Flogger Wayne.’
My job it is to dish out pain.
For pain, pain alone can save dis Nation—
From dis illegal immigration.
If my party should be returned to power —
These illegal immigrants will rue da day an’ da’ hour —
‘Cause I ain’t lookin’ fuh no billet, or no big name —
Jus’ put me in charge of duh floggin’ team.
An’ I will recruit an’ I will train
Five hundred young men with as much brawn as brain.
This should provide the nation with much enjoyment —
An’ at the same time reduce employment.
We will be known officially as duh’ ‘Flogging Squad.’
An’ their allegiance will be to only me an’ God.
Their uniform will be short Dockers khakis an’ black muscle shirt —
Boldly emblazoned with the words — “Dat Hurt!”
And our mission an’ our mantra shall be —
Floggers, Forever, For gin’ History!
Under my guidance dis war we will win!
I say “Let da’ floggin’ begin!!!
And we’ll flog dem left — we’ll flog dem right—
We will flog their a all night!
We’ll flog dem till their backside sore
We’ll flog till we can’t flog no more.
We’ll flog dem in Carmichael, in duh ‘Mud,’ in Pigeon Pea
We’ll flog dem, flog dem to the ninth degree.
We’ll flog dem all throughout the nation —
We’ll flog dem right back to creation!
We’ll flog their mothers, daughters and their spouse —
We’ll flog dem even in Fred Smith’s house.
An’ if he gat a problem with what we do —
Then what duh hell! We’ll flog him too.
Then tuh prove dat we really ain’t messin’ round —
We’ll gee Loftus some a dat good Inagua salt tuh rub dem down.
Man, nah dis really beginning to sound like fun —
Dat should at least show Mitchell how it’s done.
Then these immigrants would spread the word we gat duh will
Dat here in duh Bahamas we does torture an’ kill!!

Ha,ha,ha........that was funny! Excellent post Cornell.
Wayne Munroe with his recent comments has demonstrated that he is unworthy to hold the title of Queen's Councilor. These titles are given out far too easily in The Bahamas.
