FOR the first time since the mid-1970s, the Fast Track Jets football club claimed the Commonwealth American Football League title after a thrilling finish to the 2015 Boil Fish Bowl.
The Jets scored a 38-32 win over the Orry J Sands Pros at the DW Davis Field on Saturday to complete a nearly spotless season where they finished with just one loss on the year.
Jets quarterback Phil Rolle was named the game’s Most Valuable Player for his four- touchdown performance. Rolle finished the season with 103 completions for 1,015 yards and 17 touchdowns, all league leads.
The Pros opened the game scoring on the opening possession, but the Jets’ high- powered offence would not be denied on the afternoon, when they scored on all but one possession.
Recano Nixon scored the game’s first touchdown and the Pros successfully converted for an 8-0 lead.
Rolle would put the Jets on the scoreboard on the ensuing possession with a scramble for long yardage. That set the tone for the game as the teams traded scores until halftime when the Jets led 26-20.
They outscored the Pros 12-0 in the third quarter, and took a 38-20 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Pros staged a frantic fourth quarter comeback which fell just short in the game’s final moments when a failed onside kick brought an end to the rally.
In attendance for the final game of the season was Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchombe, MP for West End, Grand Bahama and Bimini and Minister of State for Finance Michael Halkitis, MP for Golden Isles, both avid CAFL supporters and fans of American football.
The Jets finished the year at 7-1 and led the league in scoring. Rolle was the league’s leading scorer, while the Pros’ Coleby was the league’s leading rusher with 97 carries for 624 yards.
The Jets’ Jamal Butler was the league’s leading receiver with 45 receptions for 496 yards.
