A 56-year-old man was charged with murder yesterday in connection with the death of his 81-year-old mother.

Jerome Butler, 56, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on the charge but was not required to enter a plea.

The judge informed him that the Magistrate‘s Court had no jurisdiction to consider bail and he was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

Police have said the victim, Princess Butler, was found dead in her home at Petersfield Road on February 4 shortly after 8am.

An autopsy was subsequently performed which revealed the cause of death to be asphyxia.

Police then launched an investigation into the matter that led to Butler’s arrest.

The case was adjourned to April 14 when a Voluntary Bill of Indictment will be read.

He too was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. His case was also adjourned to April 14 when a Voluntary Bill of Indictment will be read.
