No TIN number?

RE: NO TIN NUMBER FOR GOVERNMENT OFFICE

ON January 15, 2015 I visited BAlC to pay the lease on a track of land situated off Cowpen Road.

The cashier prepared the receipt and advised me that the amount I had to pay was $145.34. I queried the increase and she advised me that the difference represented VAT payment which was $10.14. I asked about the TIN Number and she said there is no TIN Number. She proceeded to write the VAT amount of my receipt and the duplicate in her receipt book.

On my way out, I saw a gentleman in another office wearing a dark blue suit. Since he appeared to be a person in authority, I put the VAT and TIN question to him. He replied, “this is government and government does not need any TIN Number”. The lady standing next to him said, she can get a TIN Number for me if need one.

I told her I expected to see it on the receipt as required by the VAT officials in their advertisement.

I have no objection paying but I expect those collecting VAT to comply with directive as advertised.
