THE Bahamas Press Club said yesterday it is “aghast at the brazen attack” against journalists which occurred in Paris on Wednesday.
Masked gunmen killed 12 people at the office of the weekly publication Charlie Hebdo, where 12 people were killed. The satirical magazine previously published cartoons Muslim Prophet Muhammad, according to international reports.
It is believed these cartoons were the motivation for the attack.
“An attack on journalists and freedom of the press anywhere in the world is as close to home as an attack on journalists and news outlets in the Bahamas and should be condemned,” a statement from Anthony Newbold, president of The Bahamas Press Club, said.
“We hope that those responsible for this immeasurable tragedy are brought to justice. We offer condolences and prayers to the families and colleagues of all who perished in the attack,” the statement added.
