A MAN was remanded to prison yesterday after being arraigned in connection with a near-fatal incident that happened last November.

Lamon Johnson, 34, of Canterbury Park stood before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt facing a single charge of attempted murder, alleged to have been attempted on November 27, 2014.

It is claimed that Johnson, alias “Dopey”, intentionally and unlawfully tried to cause the death of Laurette Johnson.

The accused, however, was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to the nature of the offence.

Johnson’s next scheduled appearance in Magistrate‘s Court is March 30, where Crown prosecutors are expected to serve him with a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

The document, which contains the Crown’s case against him, will facilitate the matter being fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial.

In the interim, the accused was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services without bail.

However, he has the right to apply for a bond in the higher court.

Johnson has retained Murrio Ducille to defend him.

The offence of attempted murder carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
