CHRIS “Fireman” Brown, the former national record holder at 400m and one of the London Olympics "Golden Knights”, has not been selected to run the individual 400m at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing next month by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA).

Brown, 36, did not compete in the event at last weekend’s BAAA’s Senior Nationals, but has run three sub-45 second 400m races this season and his time of 44.54sec stands as the second fastest time of any Bahamian this year, behind Steven Gardiner’s 44.27sec. Gardiner took first place at the Nationals, breaking Brown’s record – which had stood since 2008 - in the process.

The top four finishers all went under the world championships qualifying standard of 45.50sec, with Michael Mathieu second in 45.00sec, LaToy Williams third in 45.30sec and Ramon Miller ran 45.36sec for fourth.

The BAAA mandated that athletes must compete at the Nationals in the event in which they expected to contest at the World Championships. Brown was denied an exemption from competing in the 400m by federation executives and opted to compete in the 200m instead, where he finished second in 20.58sec.

Chris has the Kobe syndrome now ................. he has has his time to shine ...... he may be able to put it together and qualify for the Olympics but his athletic days are numbered ..... he will have a prominent place in our national sports Hall of Fame in the future ...... a true gentleman and sports ambassador

Hmmm..he's run three sub 45 times ....he's still competing in international meets, he hasn't shown that he's done yet (in my opinion). Where's Demetrius Pinder btw?

I thought it was about fielding the best team possible for the Bahamas.. I can understand if he snubbed the nationals completely, but he did attend and ran in the 200m. Due to the timeframe of the 200/400 it would have a tremendous strain to attempt to both. From the iaaf.org listings for 2015 only he and Gardiner have gone under 45.00 this year. Gardiner is currently in third place overall and Brown 13th, the next is Mathieu at 22nd. I thought Nationals were supposed to ensure that athletes are still in shape. has he not proven that he is?? If we have two potential athletes who consistently run under 45 this year should they not be included? Will he be excluded from the 4 x 400 as well to reduce the possibility of medals there as well. Something is just not right with this picture. He has earned the right to compete and definitely shown that he is in shape and capable of medalling. Come on BAAA. Leave the egos out of this and do what is best for the Bahamas.
