TAXICAB drivers are upset over the removal of the taxi stand at a Freeport resort, according to Grand Bahama Taxi Union President David Jones, who also claims that guests are being transported in buses owned by the resort.
The taxi stand, which is located south of the Island Seas Resort, has been there for several years so that cab drivers can sit and wait for guests needing taxi services.
“Cab drivers have no facilities in that area now and they have to sit and wait in their vehicles,” Mr Jones said.
Without any notice to the union or cab drivers, the union president said the taxi stand was moved even after management had assured them that it would not be relocated.
Additionally, Mr Jones alleged that the resort has been taking guests out in its shuttle buses to the food store and to the airport.
“They are taking jobs away from cab drivers and we believe that is why the taxi stand was moved,” he claimed.
Mr Jones said that the Road Traffic Department is aware of the situation and a meeting to resolve the issues between the parties will take place next week.
“What is really so upsetting to us is that cab drivers have been providing taxi service for guests at the resort for many years and the resort said they would work with us, but they moved the stand and are now using shuttle buses to move the guests,” he claimed.
The Tribune contacted the resort to speak with the manager over the removal of the stand, but this newspaper was told that the official was in a meeting.
The official did not respond to messages left for her up to press time.

These taxis are nothing more than a bunch of broken no air-conditioned cars and vans.
The Union needs to get their members to meet world standards or shut up.
