What’s going on in this country? Slowly but surely we are being stripped of every form of decency, integrity, law and order. Recently, we all witnessed the rank brazenness displayed live for all to see how little attention is given to what the Bahamian people think or feel.
The feeble attempt of the government to neutralize the Public Accounts Committee exposed blatantly how callous they are. The ruling by the Speaker should have embarrassed everyone who has a shred of integrity. In my humble opinion, it is wrong what the speaker did.
I may not know all the rules of the House neither am I a student of the law, but my mother did not “born no fool”.
The PAC was given the power to send for persons and papers and to sit from place to place in their quest to get to the bottom of how the public’s purse was managed. Any “above board” department, Ministry or office should be co-operative with the PAC if only to show that they are complying with the law, or in other words to clear their name.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly is a dentist by profession. I am not sure if the position as Speaker and the profession as a dentist were perfect for this particular exercise.
The teeth of the PAC were all surgically extracted and now renders them harmless. They have a little bark, but absolutely no bite, and the Speaker made sure of that.
There is no explanation that can be given for his ruling. How come a standing committee that has been constituted with all of the powers so that it could be independent of the House and its numbers be rendered useless with one fell swoop of the Speaker‘s ruling.
The games that are being played in this incident, screams “dictatorship”.
I cannot see for the life of me how the whole Bahamas has not been up in arms about this. All of the normal practices are now being stripped away. Chaos is right around the corner.
The lack of shame in the decision that was made frightens me. This is proof that the law means nothing now. People do as they wish and make a call, then they are let free. Wow! “Oh Justice, where art thou?”
I do not recognize the Bahamas, we used to be organised, respected, clean and our brother’s keeper. Today, we are a group of “cut throats”. The sad part is nobody cares.

Edward Snowden said, “There can be no faith in government if our highest offices are excused from scrutiny - they should be setting the example of transparency”. Enough said.
