Democracy or dictatorship

EDITOR, The Tribune.

As described in Wikipedia, democracy consists of four key elements: “1. A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections. 2. The active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life. 3. Protection of the human rights of all citizens. 4. A rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens”.

A dictatorship is a type of authoritarianism, in which politicians regulate nearly every aspect of the public and private behaviour of normal people.

So under these definitions what would you call:

A person who ignores the will of the people on gambling in the country – Dictator.

A person who ignores local expertise and advise – Dictator.

A person who ignores the request for transparency and accountability – Dictator.

A person who taxes and spends his people’s money without a seeming care in the world - Dictator.

A person who ignores the call to stop National Health Insurance as it will bankrupt and destroy our country – Dictator.

A person who says he will not hesitate to implement something that will adversely affect a nation - Dictator.

The list goes on!

The freedom to vote out a government that rules like a dictator - DEMOCRACY.
