Anglican Church Women leaders meet as conference approaches

LEADERS of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) of the Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands met recently to discuss ways women are strengthening individuals, families, churches and communities by learning, living and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

More than 70 participants from throughout New Providence and the Family Islands converged at St Matthew’s Anglican Church hall in a one-day leadership seminar which is a prelude to the ACW’s annual conference.

The annual conference is scheduled for Eleuthera, May 16-21, under the theme “Joyfully Affirming Our Anglican Heritage through Dedicated Service” (Psalms 16:6 and 100:1).

Laish Boyd, Bishop of the Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands and patron of the ACW, reminded the women: “We have a goodly heritage which we should continue to build upon”.

He noted that the boundary lines have enclosed them in a wonderful church, but they must seek to live for Christ and never stop learning about the church.

Bishop Boyd emphasised that their involvement is about Jesus and not personal glory.

Participants also heard from past Council President Inger Saunders, who spoke on the topic of “Leadership”; Cecilia Askew, guidance counsellor and coordinator of Diocesan Pastoral Care Ministries, on “Benefits of Mentoring Our Youth”, and Lynette Deveaux, vice-president of St Matthew’s ACW, who gave a motivational presentation. The ladies also viewed the ACW documentary, “Anglican Church Women: A Salute to 50 years…Faith, Commitment and Love”.

The ACW is now preparing for its 51st Anniversary Thanksgiving Service at St Patrick’s Anglican Church in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, and the 43rd Annual Conference which will also be held in Eleuthera.
