A BRITISH man has been shot dead after two armed men boarded his sailboat near Stuart Cove's diving centre in western New Providence on Friday night and demanded cash.
Police report that the man, believed to be an employee at the diving centre, has been resident in the Bahamas for a number of years and lived aboard his boat. Around 10pm two men armed with handguns accosted him and demanded cash. The men fired two shots at the victim before fleeing on foot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have launched an island-wide manhunt for four men in connection with the incident.
The murder - the third in 33 hours since Thursday night - takes the total of homicides for 2015 to 48 according to The Tribune's records.
• Police are already investigating a fatal shooting of a man around 9.30pm on Thursday off Kemp Road when, according to reports, a man was standing outside his vehicle when he was approached by a man known to him and shot multiple times. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance but died a short time later.
And shortly before 10pm on Thursday, police say a man had just closed his barbershop on Baillou Hill Road South when he was approached by three males. A struggle ensued, which resulted in the man being shot in the head and face. The suspects fled in a waiting vehicle. The victim died on the scene.

This is what happens when succesive corrupt governments spend all the their effort and time trying to rape and steal from the Bahamian people instead of working to improve the education system and social services. And it's also what happens when the vast majority of Bahamian citizen, sit around and do and say nothing about it.
The failure of school system has left most of this country illiterate and uneducated. Citizens lack the basic skills required to do the simplest jobs. Unemployment is at it's current level because the unemployed are not trained to work. This leaves them with little to no options. As crime rises, tourists stop coming and 70% of the economy of the Bahamas will begin to grind to a halt. The longer this is left to fester, as the leaders flip flop back and forth between excuses while the Bahamian people sit around and suck their teeth while doing absolutely nothing, the worse it's going to get.
It is a past time of the Bahamian people to blame others for everything that does not go their way in life, and in this case it is true. The governments of this country have done nothing to help it, but that is the fault of every Bahamian. It is the people who put these corrupt leaders into power and it is the people who refuse to stand up and demand something better for the country. For once we could actually do something, actually demand something of our governments and our leaders.

Well said newcitizen. You are right on the mark. It's time for politicians to accept that fighting crime has to be a non-partisan issue. That means the AG's office not covering up for the PLP's failings. Crime affects all of us, red shirts, yellow shirts, black or white. We need a concerted and unified campaign to fight these thugs and educate them before they become thugs!

If the victim was found dead at the scene, how do the police know there were four men and two of them were armed? Was there a witness? So many stories in this newspaper are so poorly written.

More crime news that will make i's way around the globe. It is terrible news days like this when we could at least have taken solace that today is the Annual World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD), where our fellow Comrades across the globe are encouraged each year on the first Saturday of May, to tend to our gardens unclothed as mother nature so intended. So what you are saying is there should be no Carnival, no Junkanoo, Close down Arawak Cay and every night club and bar on this island. YES that actually will reduce the murder rate. In fact the FNM themselves banned GANSTER RAP AND REGGAE in the 90s from being played in public - night clubs and bars could not play it for example - and crime went down. That was only a temporary ban, they should revisit that, and start with the radio stations. Bottom line is don't just get all vexed with the Carnival, there are MANY violence enabling places and events out there to deal with.

I don't think its a matter of being 'vexed' with Carnival as you say. It's the fact that after attending this major event, and bearing in mind the complex issues plaguing BEC right now.. one can only hope that the home front will be in the same condition to which it was left in. This is the real concern of the matter. The disadvantage of forgoing another expense due to petty thieves in these bad economic times, many can't afford. I sure as hell can't! That's why my butt has to opt out, and stay home to protect the little assets I have left and worked hard for. : (

Listen.. I just had this very same discussion couple days ago. After coming to the very same conclusion, I was told that the government plans to bring policemen from other islands to assist at the event as well as other areas of Nassau where ever possible. I don't know how true this is, but it still doesn't make much sense to me no matter where you pull the man power from. I suspect there will still gonna be a whole lot of potential break-ins going on.

Comrades we didn't have to wait for yet another cold-blooded murder for it to sink-in that crime is the defining issue of our time. When crime only affected the poor, few in better neighborhoods were ready to see curtailing of murders the make-or-break moment for the middle class, and for all those who see the middle class becoming beyond their reach. The stake is no longer about which colour, economic group or class you belong to - but whether this will be a country where the people who can leave will not be prepared to risk their lives to stay? I think we all know people who are thinking seriously of making or exploring exit opportunities.

Was the boat actually at the dock's at Stuart's Cove? Hearing they had a security guard bound or held while another set went to work on the boat...I also heard the man was killed in front of his wife...so was it 2 guys to secure the security guard and another 2 to kill this guy? I'm thinking that's way more than a robbery plan...that was a hit for one reason or another.

What the Bahamians do not realise is that it is a third world country aspiring to have the advantages of a civilised society. Better education is the key. Widespread corruption in the Police service and in politics will never make the country improve. An avuncular dictator is needed to put the country on the right course. Alternatively a return to British Governance or consultancy would do the trick.

@duppyVAT - yes that is the way it is.... Even though it is very wrong and stupid to stereotype, it's still a fact of life that Most people (Black & White) presume that a young black person getting murdered is gang or drug related, but not for a young white persons murder. The media and public are both guilty of this prejudice even though we don't like to admit it. Then again, is it statistically/factually the case that most young black men are murdered because of crime related reasons, and are most young white men murdered because they are victims of crime? And who's fault is it that young black men are being killed? Dysfunctional and absent Fathers would be my guess, and the place to start looking for answers on how to stop this bloodshed.
