An aspiring Bahamian stylist is joining the fight against breast cancer by using his talents to put together and host a charity fashion show on November 14.

Calling it “Fashion Beats Cancer”, Shannon Collie is partnering with The Fashion Icon company and the Cancer Society of the Bahamas to make it an evening to remember at Mario’s Bowling and Entertainment Palace, beginning at 7pm.

The motto behind the event is “each one, reach one”, the young stylist said.

The 22-year-old is encouraging persons to attend the event and show their support for those women who have fought and those who are still in the fight against the disease. He hopes the fashion show becomes an annual event so that more people can become involved and be made aware of the cause.

A total of 15 models will strut their stuff on the runway during the show, including four cancer survivors namely – Erin Brown, Rika Cargill, Gennie Dean and Thereze Johnson.

A recent graduate of the Joe Stubbs JSSA Fashion Styling Agency, Shannon discovered his calling during a special styling boot camp course.

“In the past I worked for Mitzie Turnquest, owner Of Signature Styles, where I got my hands-on experience just before attending the JSSA Styling Boot Camp. While working at Signature Styles I enjoyed transforming images and began to realise that this was something that I was passionate about.

“As a teenager I always had a different outlook towards matching bold colours and not being afraid to wear them. Today we call it colour blocking,” Shannon told Tribune Woman.

As an up-and-coming fashion stylist, his work caters to a clientele of both women and men. With The Fashion Icon company here in Nassau, Shannon said he works with a talented team, including Davin Beneby, the official face of the brand, photographers from New Vision, and with Beats By Ambri and House of London.

After losing two relatives to cancer, Shannon said this was the push he needed to do what he can to help with the cause.

He is excited and is looking forward to what is expected to be an unforgettable show, as he prepares to introduce the audience to unique fashions and styles.

“The show is expected to be entertaining as well, with some of our own local Bahamian artists making appearances.

“I look forward to the event being a great success, not just for myself, but most of all for the Cancer Society of the Bahamas and survivors,” he said.

Tickets prices are $30 for general admission and $45 for VIP seating. For more information, contact 423-6886 or visit Signature Styles on Marathon Road.
