STAFF at Solomon’s Super Centre, Solomon’s Fresh Market and Cost Right were quick to start loading trucks with food items and new clothing earmarked for the Bahamas Red Cross in the wake of Hurricane Joaquin. The goods, valued at $25,000, will be distributed to Family Island residents devastated by the storm.
“In the aftermath of a hurricane of this magnitude, we know that corporate support goes a long way to assist persons impacted,” said Renea Bastian, vice-president of Marketing and Communications at AML Foods Ltd. “Our decision to partner with the Bahamas Red Cross made sense considering the fact that several communities have immediate needs. They have a network of volunteers in place and know exactly what is needed on the ground.”
At Odyssey Aviation, as scores of volunteers loaded Trans Island Airways planes with goods bound for hurricane-ravaged areas, the team from Domino’s delivered free lunch to those lending a helping hand. The volunteers, organised by Paul Aranha and Michelle Cove, have been working long hours to get critical supplies to the southern Bahamas.
“We appreciate the assistance so far from private citizens as well as organisations like Domino’s who have come out and assisted with feeding our volunteers. It’s nice that they can offer the hard working team lunch, especially on a busy day like today,” Ms Cove said.
In addition to corporate donations and support, several AML locations in Nassau and Grand Bahama will serve as drop-off stations for relief efforts. Local feeding group, Hands For Hunger, have set up collection bins at Solomon’s Super Centre, Solomon’s Fresh Markets and at Cost Right in Nassau.
Customers in Grand Bahama also will be able to donate to the Hurricane Joaquin relief efforts at Solomon’s Queen’s Highway and Lucaya and at Cost Right Freeport. The Bahamas Red Cross in Freeport will assist with the distribution of these donations to the affected islands.
