TWO weeks after Hurricane Joaquin ripped through the central and southern Bahamas, residents on impacted islands remain shellshocked by the devastation left in its wake. In south Long Island, 70-year-old Delbert Darville struggles with the massive loss wrought by the unexpected storm.
The Petty's resident told The Tribune's Save Our South team - which included former senator John Bostwick II - on Wednesday that he hoped the category 4 hurricane inspired positive change in the country.
"I hope I'm going to be ok," he told the relief workers as he fought back tears outside his gutted home.
"Because I lost my mother and father, my two brothers and my two sisters [in the past]."
"We all wasn't expecting something like this," he said, "but this I hope at least people will try to change their miserable life."
Hurricane Joaquin battered the central and southern Bahamas for two days last week, on October 1 and 2.
