Re: The new Planning and Subdivision Bill
EDITOR, The Tribune.
In the Blackbeard’s Cay case, Justice Stephen Isaacs last month made orders against the Prime Minister, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Director of Town Planning whose approvals for Blackbeard’s Cay re-development and new dophinarium, did not meet the requirements set out in the 2011 Planning and Subdivision Act, among other laws.
The Defendants could be found in contempt of court, and perhaps to save face, the Government at short notice, presents a new Planning and Subdivision Act, which severely restricts the right of the public to be heard on any new developments, and excluding as it happens, dolphinariums.
If the Government is able to produce new or amending legislation on an urgent basis, perhaps it could also urgently amend the Companies Act, 1992, to provide for a Chapter 11 type Bankruptcy proceedings, to save that project, along with the 2,000 jobs that were lost last week?
