Bowe and Baha Mar

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Gowon Bowe, should excuse himself from any further remarks regarding Baha Mar unless those remarks show that he “does not have a horse in the race”.

Just last week I thought about the amount of construction that has been done in China over the past decade, buildings much larger than those at Baha Mar and the quality of that workmanship. Then I reflected on what has been going on at Baha Mar and all of the stories we are hearing.

It is probably the quality level of that work that this company has done that has given Mr Izmirlian adequate grounds for the Chapter 11 move he decided to undertake.

The story by Khrisna Virgil seems like an attempt on Mr Bowe’s part to do damage control.

There is a question that Mr Bowe will have to answer: “If it is proven that the China Construction America is at fault in the workmanship at Baha Mar, would he be prepared to support the removal of the CCA and the completion of the project by Bahamian contractors?

That should not be a difficult question for him as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, whose aim is to promote employment for Bahamians. However, his real job may present a conflict of interest – and this is putting it lightly.

I will suggest that he resigns from the Chamber so that he will not make the mistake of using the public perception of his position as a soapbox for an issue that affects too many persons who do not have the options that he has when it comes to being employed.

Very well said Ed. He has lost credibility since his about face on VAT. He must resign from the Chamber now.

The Chinese are not known for their quality:

When it was approved in 1992, then-Vice Premier Zou Jiahua told the National People's Congress that it would cost $8.35 billion to build. But the project's budget quickly spiraled out of control. By the time that the dam was completed in 2006, the price tag had more than quadrupled to a mind-boggling $37 billion

What do you expect from someone who proudly lays claim to being family to the infamous Bahamian drug dealer Nigel Bowe, now deceased, who the U.S. government relentlessly pursued until he was eventually extradited from the Bahamas to the U.S. to serve some well deserved time! That's something most of us would want to hide!!

Do you have proof Gowon is related to Nigel? What about the Alfonso Bowe family of smugglers? Any connection there?
