WITH 34 per cent of Bahamian women being diagnosed with breast cancer, according to statistics, it is clear that the fight against the disease is still going strong.

It is a battle that all Bahamians are encouraged to join, whether they have been diagnosed with the disease or not.

Among the numerous corporate entities that have remained committed to waging war against breast cancer is Mario’s Bowling & Entertainment Palace, now back with the fourth annual “Paint the Lanes Pink” event.

The two-day expo is designed to bring awareness to the pressing issue and facilitate further research into the mutations of the BRCA1 gene found in Bahamian women.

‘Paint the Lanes Pink: Bowl, Browse, Buy – Bon Appétit!’ takes place this weekend, October 2-3, and will serve to heighten public awareness and encourage contributions to the country’s various cancer organisations and support groups in a fun and exciting way.

People will be able to browse and buy from local Bahamian businesses, as the expo will feature over 70 exhibitors. Those exhibitors’ booths will display jewellery, beauty and cosmetics, children’s and ladies apparel, clutches and handbags, cupcakes and sweets, hair accessories, health and fitness articles, home décor, money management tips, natural hair products, shoes, spa products, undergarments and lingerie – all in support of breast cancer awareness.

The main stage will offer entertainment, fashion shows, hair and make-up demonstrations, samples and giveaways throughout the two-day event.

Paint the Lanes Pink will also celebrate the many individuals currently battling breast cancer.

“For a fee of $20, Mario’s Bowling will dedicate a bowling lane in honour of someone you know who is battling breast cancer or has lost their fight to this deadly disease,” organisers said.

“Their name and image will appear on the screens in celebration or honour of your friend or family member. The proceeds from this will be donated to the Sister Sister Foundation. We invite the public to come out and show your support for the fourth annual Paint the Lanes Pink event. (The) event is committed to supporting breast cancer awareness, patient and family care, and educating persons about the importance of early detection. This event allows us to celebrate, empower and educate through community togetherness. We aim to celebrate and honour the lives of women and men whom breast cancer has touched, through music, fashion, entertainment, and the power of knowledge.”

The expo is open this Friday from 6pm to 9pm and on Saturday from 3pm to 8pm.
