POLICE are asking for the public’s assistance in solving a number of shootings over the weekend that claimed two lives and left several others in hospital.

The two killings occurred on Saturday and took the country’s murder count for 2016 to 37 according to The Tribune’s records.

Chief Superintendent at the Central Detective Unit Clayton Fernander told The Tribune yesterday no one had been taken into custody and police do not yet have a motive for the killings.

He also said there is no information at this time to suggest the culprits were being harboured, “but we know they are hiding”.

According to police reports, officers were asked to respond to an apparent shooting shortly after 3am on Bel-Doc Avenue, off Carmichael Road.

Police found the lifeless body of a man in a Honda vehicle, who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene while another man and woman, who were also shot there, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Thirteen hours later, around 4pm, a man was sitting in front of a convenience store on Farrington Road when a man in a silver coloured Honda Fit approached and shot him before speeding off.

A woman, standing nearby, was also shot. The man was pronounced dead on the scene and the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in stable condition. The vehicle, which was reported stolen, was later found burnt on Dean’s Lane.

Police are also actively investigating shootings that occurred on Friday.

Officers were on routine patrol on Robinson Road and East Street around 8pm when they saw two men driving in a white vehicle. They appeared to be involved in a heated argument. The officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped off.

Following a short chase the vehicle came to a stop in the area of Blue Hill Road South. As the officers approached, the vehicle sped towards them, injuring one of the officers. Officers responded with gunfire, shooting one of the men in the process. The chase finally ended at Sequoia Street, Pinewood Gardens, where the vehicle crashed.

The two men were taken into custody and the injured suspect was taken to hospital for treatment.

An hour later, a man was standing in front of his home on Homestead Street and Moore Avenue when he was approached by an armed gunman who opened fire before fleeing on foot. The victim was rushed to hospital, where he was stabilised.
