FIFA's Ethics Committee has banned former Caribbean Football Union (CFU) executive Lionel Haven from football for five years - after he failed to disclose information on cash payments at a CFU event in 2011.

As well as the ban, Haven, who is from The Bahamas, has been fined 3,000 Swiss Francs.

According to Reuters, the ban was made public without Haven being informed, as the committee was unable to reach him at his last postal address.

Is this in some way connected to the controversial rise in the popularity of beach soccer vs grass soccer in the past 5 years???

............................... One down, several dozen more pirates to go! ............................

FIFA exposed Lionel Haven as a part of the local piracy crew holding a "gunner" position.

Pictured in full pirate regale with suit and tie, these pirates waltz around the country in slow motion with chest's out, fashionably dressed, wearing shiny shoes, sporting the latest vehicles and pronouncing the word can't as caan't! (jackass's personified)

We can look forward to US State Department's response to Leslie Miller's stupid challenge of identifying government corruption well ahead of 2017.

I think the man should be allowed to respond and defend himself before jumping to conclusions. FIFA is a multi-billion dollar operation where almost all of his management is under investigation. Follow the story to see how Lionel Haven fits in. This may be backlash for something he didn't do.

Ample opportunity to defend himself was given....He's in hiding

There is probably evidence of some payments, but assume there was nothing untoward about them. At minimum he didn't disclose that he received them because the organization clearly doesn't know about them, and that is a BIIIGGG no-no. They would have very strict rules for accepting even non-monetary gifts.

Second thing is, these professional organizations like to use very diplomatic language when they report these types of abnormalities, maybe for legal purposes, I'm assuming an organization like FIFA would have tried numerous contact methods for their regional head, phone, cell, email etc. The last resort would have been by post, when that failed they would have proceeded with sanctions. I could be wrong but it's 2016.

Seems FIFA decided it's best Bahamians know the name of the Bahamas banker who went to New York to collect the US$250,000 FIFA bribe cheque. Clearly this guy Haven is not a fit and proper person to be a director of a public interest entity whether it be any kind of financial institution, insurance company or public company. He is however now fit to join the corrupt Christie-led PLP government in just about any official capacity!
