BPL says power cuts suspended after 48 hours of "challenges"

BAHAMAS Power and Light Company Limited (BPL) said on Tuesday evening that it has suspended outage rotations in New Providence following two days of "challenges".

A statement from the company said that customers would have experienced power cuts during the past 48 hours after BPL experienced problems with several generator units at Blue Hills and Clifton Pier Power Stations.

Before the 6pm (evening peak) on Tuesday, BPL officials confirmed that all of the impacted units had returned to service.

"Company officials admit that present conditions could lend itself to further generation challenges but at present they do not anticipate any generation shortfalls resulting in the need for continued outage rotations in New Providence," the statement said.

"BPL is confident that once the additional 40 megawatts of rental power is operational, in September, reliability will significantly improve in New Providence. Additionally, with the extra rental generation operational, BPL expects to continue much needed engine overhauls to improve the output from its existing fleet.

"In the meantime, BPL asks for its customers’ patience as it seeks to implement short and long term solutions to improve its services across the country."

Please Lord let the rental generators arrive before Christmas. It should be nice and cool by then and will will be casting aspersions as to who ordered them in the first place. Amen

Going halfway through summer, the outages were not as bad as last year. Some mornings we were having six and eight outages between 6 am and noon and up to 13 in a day. The weather has cool now so BPL challenges should be reduced
