MIXED Martial Arts in the Bahamas has increased its profile locally and now the region has begun to take notice.
Reputed MMA network tapology.com has ranked several Bahamian amateur fighters among some of the best in the Caribbean, highlighted by DiJonnaise Brown, ranked No.1 in his weight class.
With a record of 3-1, Brown is listed as the top bantamweight in the region. He is also ranked 20th out of 134 bantamweights out of Florida and 85th out of 552 in the US Southeast.
Brown, 25, suffered the first loss of his young career last August at BOMAC 2: The Revenge but won the first three bouts of his career, two of which took place in South Florida.
Brown’s opening bout was the co-main event at Combat Night 36 in November 2014 when he defeated Agustin Barros via unanimous decision. He followed with another unanimous decision win over Mohammad Shaman at Combat Night 40. He made his home debut at BOMAC 1 when he won by way of a second round knockout over Cory Watson. His win streak came to an end with the loss to Omar Smith at BOMAC 2.
Other Bahamian fighters ranked in their respective divisions include Markkeito Miller, No.5 among flyweights, Cameron Lewis tied at No. 9 among lightweights, Tyson Isaacs tied at No. 7 among welterweights and Jawara Pierre as the No.5 heavyweight.
Tapology is an online MMA network. Fans of the sport enter pre-fight predictions, maintain custom fighter and bout rankings, and discuss on its advanced fight forum.
Regional rankings are the ratings system for fighters across the globe in over 50 different geographic regions. As opposed to worldwide rankings which rate the elite fighters in organisations such as the UFC, regional rankings assess fighters in the much larger world of regional and local MMA action. Regional rankings are provided for both men’s and women’s divisions, for each weight class, and for both professional and amateur levels.
Regional rankings are calculated using Tapology’s proprietary fighter rating algorithm, which incorporates information including regional eligibility, weight classes, wins and losses, quality of opponents, frequency of fights and experience.
