Henry Knowles to be ordained at Wesley Methodist

REV Henry Aaron Knowles will be ordained to the Ministry of Word, Sacrament and Order in the Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church tonight at the Wesley Methodist Church in Harbour Island, Eleuthera.

Rev Christopher Neely, president of the Conference, said Rev Knowles has served in various forms of ministry in the Methodist Church from childhood, and everyone is pleased that he has completed the requirements for ordination.

According to Rev Neely, Rev Knowles brings a wealth of experience to his vocation. He said he is confident that Rev Knowles will have a very fruitful ministry.

In 1993, Rev Knowles served as the youth pastor for St Michael’s and Curry Memorial Methodist Churches in New Providence. He entered the teaching profession in 1996 and served in several posts, chiefly at the Mangrove Cay High School in Mangrove Cay, Andros, for six years before responding to a call from the Methodist Church to accept a position as deputy head of Queen’s College – a post in which he also served for six years.

In May 2008, the Bahamas Methodist Conference elected him to the office of General Secretary of Conference. He successfully served in this post until August 2011. Rev Knowles then moved with his family to Atlanta, Georgia, to pursue theological training. In May 2014, he graduated from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University where he achieved a Master’s degree of Divinity with a graduate certificate in Faith and Health.

Rev Knowles also holds an Associate’s degree in Biology and teacher’s certificate in Secondary Education from the College of the Bahamas, a double Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology from Luther College, in Decorah, Iowa, and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.

In addition to now serving as the minister of Wesley Methodist Church in Harbour Island and ministerial moderator for the North Eleuthera Methodist region, Rev Knowles is also the co-chairman of the board of directors for Bahamas Methodist Habitat and the Zion Children’s Home Board, and community advisor for the newly created Student Leadership Club at the Harbour Island All-Age School.
