Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. - The president of the Tau Nu Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at the College of The Bahamas has been chosen as a 2016 Leadership Fellow by the “Leadership Fellows Committee” of the international organisation.
Georgie Anne Wilson, who currently serves as the president of the “Tau Nu” chapter and a 2016 honours graduate at COB (accounting), is the only member in the international region (all undergraduate chapters outside of the USA) of 2016 to have been afforded this honour.
Georgie travels to Seattle, Washington, this month to attend the five-day conference, whose purpose is to “cultivate transformational leaders through a holistic and dynamic curriculum. Undergraduates will receive professional career training and coaching, leadership development, as well as internship and job placement opportunities through their participation in this enriching programme.”
Participants will also receive valuable support and a year-long coaching from experienced and knowledgeable mentors who are top professionals in their fields.
Only two former local chapter sorors have received this award: Soror Philicia Huyler (Summer 2014), and Soror Sonovia Burrows (Summer 2015).
Georgie said: “This is just the beginning, I thank God for the great work he has done in my life, as well as my parents; George Wilson and Carlean Moss and for their life-long motivation, and assistance in being able to achieve such success today.”
Georgie also acknowledges her daughter as her chief motivator. “I want to be the mother that she is proud of, and excited to call mom,” she said.
Breezes Bahamas Eagles. - Breezes Bahamas Resort & Spa established its Junior (under 14) Youth Soccer Team in 2015.
In less than a year, they finished fifth in The Bahamas Youth Football Association League and made it to the semi-finals in the knockout competition.
Team members are made up of students from local high schools – such as S C McPherson, A F Adderley, St John’s College.
Coach and Breezes duty manager Vernel Rolle said: “The young men are committed to the club and give their all during practice sessions and at the games.”
Breezes helped to supply jerseys, practice gear, transportation and more. The resort also sponsored a social event at Mario’s Bowling where they presented each player with an appreciation award.
Rotaract East Nassau. - Loretta Butler-Turner will be the guest at the next meeting of the Rotaract Club of East Nassau, the club’s professional development meeting.
She will be speaking to club members about the Constitutional Amendment Bills.
The meeting takes place on Monday, at Lifestyles Bar and Lounge/ Bacardi Bar (East & Bay Streets),
Fellowship at 6pm, with the meeting starting at 6:30pm.
