THE newest Dermalogica Skin Centre is now open in Grand Bahama, making it the third one in the Bahamas and in the Caribbean region.

Sarah Beek opened the first Dermalogica Skin Centre in New Providence 16 years ago. She and her brother, Ray Simpson Jr who is also a co-owner and partner in the business, opened the second in Harbour Island in December.

“We doing are great in Nassau, and we opened in Harbour Island in December fully booked and things are going good there,” she said during the soft opening at the Freeport store in the Port Lucaya Marketplace last Wednesday.

“The store in Grand Bahama opened in April and is doing well,” said Mrs Beek. “We are one of the flagship stores by Dermalogica, and people are finding out about us and the tourists recognised the brand and are coming in,” she said.

The Dermalogica skin care brand is known worldwide, and there are 25 stores around the world. In addition to selling the Dermalogica brand products, the store also provides professional customised skin and body treatments, massage therapy, and technology treatments as well.

According to Mrs Beek, they handle all distribution for Dermalogica products in the Caribbean. They supply the products to spas, skin centres and dermatologist offices throughout the region.

Although skin and body treatments are booked by appointment, there is a skin bar available for customers to speak with a skin therapist who can conduct a face mapping to analyse their skin and sample various products.

The store décor is modern and there are two pods where treatments are carried out. There are five persons on staff.

“We did not want the rooms to be square and so the rooms are designed like pods,” Mrs Beek said.

State-of-the-art technology is also utilised. The store offers technology skin treatments using LED Light Therapy, which treats various skin concerns such as acne, aging, pigmentation caused by sun damage, Rosacea and  redness.

They also offer dermabrasions, microcurrent and oxygen, and other customised treatments such as Bio Active Peels, and more.

“It is very effective and probably one of the biggest technologies (on the market),” said Mrs Beek.

In addition to massage therapy, they also offer prenatal massages as well.

Pod two is where body treatments and waxing are done, and there is also a shower available for clients after the treatments.

“We do full body waxing which is lacking here in Freeport, said Meredith, a Dermalogica instructor and massage therapist.

Mrs Beek said some of the common skin problems they see in the Bahamas are acne and pigmentation. She also noted that many clients are concerned about skin aging.
