Judo: Team Bahamas brings home four medals from Ocean State International

THE Bahamas won four medals at the Ocean State International this past weekend. Cynthia Rahming won gold, Faith Rae won a gold and silver and Jasmine Russell won a bronze. The men’s team competed well, winning several matches, but came up short at the podium.

The Ocean State had over 500 competitors and 150 teams. Teams came from France, Hungary, Canada as well as the United States.

Coach D’Arcy Rahming Jr noted some important victories. “Cynthia defeated Nicole Stout who is ranked number four in the US and number one in juniors in the gold medal match.”

“We saw some really important developments. Jeremy defeated an opponent from France who had been on the mat from he was sixand is now 16. Jeremy only has six months of training. And Ethan defeated a top opponent from Hungary.”

The team is being prepared for CARIFTA 2017 which will be hosted in the Bahamas. There will be a talent selection summer camp which will be free to kids aged 13 to 16 this summer at Holy Family Catholic Church on Robinson Road.
