THE Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) crowned its 2016 volleyball champions in all four divisions at the DW Davis Gymnasium last week.
All four series ended up in two-game sweeps with the HO Nash Lions winning both the junior girls’ and boys’ titles and the CI Gibson Rattlers taking the senior girls’ and boys’ titles.
In the junior girls’ division, the Lions, coached by Patricia ‘Pattie’ Johnson, pulled off a 25-12, 25-14 victory over the SC McPherson Sharks. Tyanna Gordon was named the most valuable player.
The Lions, coached by April Styles, emerged with a 25-18, 22-25 and 15-6 win over the AF Adderley Fighting Tigers. Stephen McKenzie was named the MVP.
In winning the senior girls’ title, the Lady Rattlers pulled off a 25-14, 23-25 and 15-7 win over the CV Bethel Stingrays. CI Gibson, coached by Cylestina Williams, saw Latavia Brennen cart off the MVP.
Davidson Darville was named the MVP as the Rattlers, coached by Kevin ‘KJ’ Johnson, clinched the senior boys’ title with a 25-16, 23-25 and 17-15 decision over CV Bethel.
