Re: ‘Carnival was never meant to be profitable’, The Tribune, September 27.
THE unprofitable extravagance of the ‘Bread and Circuses”, with which the once-mighty Romans were obsessed, contributed greatly to the political compliance of the grassroots masses and eventual downfall.
Hopefully, our very loose equivalent, a kind of ‘Johnny Cake and Junkanoo Carnival’, will remain enjoyable but will become a bit more cost-effective as time goes on.
