Catholic school promotes love

Sts Francis and Joseph Catholic Primary School joined a national campaign last September to promote caring, love and honesty in students.

The goal is to ensure that each child realises the importance of embodying and exemplifying these traits in school and within the wider community.

In an effort to demonstrate to the students the importance of spreading love, the school held its first King of Hearts and Queen of Hearts competition.

The students were required to sell sheets of hearts to qualify for a grand prize. On Valentine’s Day, the students were rewarded.

Chaya Ferguson, Maya Gardiner, Alvin Armbrister and Jasiah Fox were named princesses and princes.

The King of Hearts was Dwight Kelly and the Queen of Hearts was Jordyn Lloyd.

The king and queen received a Valentine’s basket filled with treats, toys and a Samsung Galaxy tablet. They were serenaded by a local music artist who wrote an original jingle for the two winners.

“I am grateful to our students and parents that embarked on this journey,” said Latoya Hanna, the event’s coordinator and reading specialist at Sts Francis and Joseph Catholic Primary School.

“It was very successful and speaks to our mission in Catholic education to build the whole child. A child that is academically rooted, grounded in Christian values and principles, expresses his/her own gifts and talents and displays love and care for others.”
