EDITOR, The Tribune.
I WAS interested to read the letter from JB, June 23rd, on the matter of the party faithful. There are basically two forms of government, Conservative, and the many titles of the others under one umbrella, Liberal, Socialist, Democratic, Labour etc.
One usually finds Conservatives have a higher standard of education and are called “privileged” by unethical Socialists, to make a telling distinction of how much they care about the social divide.
It has been suggested that everyone at birth be given a sum of money, so they would be “equal”, but that would do nothing to change the situation, for the more you give some people the more dependent they become, for achievement comes from within. I agree Nassau is a prime example of bull headedness, but far from the only one.
We only have to look at Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Argentina, etc, etc, etc, where people have followed empty promises until the country collapses.
In fact, Mr Chavez is quoted as saying democracy cannot exist with capitalism, it does not seem to be doing very well with Socialism. But you have the same situation in Britain where Socialism is again rearing its ugly head in the name of Mr Corbyn, who has caught the mood of the young people with his promises.
The Labour Party has totally bankrupted Britain twice in my lifetime, and he is going back to all the failed policies of yesteryear. The people get the kind of government they deserve, the only trouble being we all have to suffer.
Unfortunately democracy demands an opposition to make it work, therein lies the catch.
