THE Quality Home Centre Divers took a 2-0 lead over the three-time defending champions Sharks as the New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association opened its best-of-five championship series over the weekend.
On Saturday in the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park at the Southern Recreation Grounds, the Divers routed the Sharks 21-7 as Keith Richards got the win on the mound over Foster Dorsett.
Game two was played on Sunday at the same venue as the Divers held off the Sharks 16-13. Lester Stuart was the winning pitcher and Nelson Farrington suffered the loss.
Game three in the series is scheduled for 1pm Saturday at Southern Recreation Grounds. If the Sharks avoid getting swept, game four will be played on Sunday. If necessary, the fifth and deciding game will follow.

BAHAMAS HALF
MARATHON
THE Bahamas Roadmasters is all set to hold its Bahamas Half Marathon on Sunday. The event is slated to begin at 6am from Arawak Cay and head west to Goodman’s Bay and return to Arawak Cay.There will also be a half marathon and a 10 kilometre walk.
This year, the Bahamas Roadmasters will make a donation to Lupus 242, the Crisis Center and the Bahamas Heart Association.

ELECTIONS
The Bahamas Chess Federation will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on January 7, 2018 when elections will be held for the 2018 executive board.
The positions to be filled are president, 1st vice president, 2nd vice president, treasurer and secretary.
Nominations for the above-mentioned positions must be submitted by reply email before December 10, 2017. To be eligible, a candidate must be nominated by at least two full members.
“We look forward to your active participation in the election process,” said Lana Karelina, BCF’s secretary. “Your involvement will play an important role in shaping the future of chess in the Bahamas.”

COX WIN TITLE
NM Byron Small captured the Bahamas Chess Federation’s 2017 Bahamas National Championship title. The nationals was held November 2-12 at TG Glover Primary School.
In winning the title, Small earned $500 in cash prize from the joint sponsorship of Lindroth Development Company Limited and the New Providence Development Company Limited.
NM Valentine Cox got second place and $300, FM Cecil Moncur was third with $150 and CM Kendrick Knowles and WCM Polina Karelina were tied in fourth place for $62 apiece.

ENDORSEMENT
THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association has announced that it has endorsed Omar Smith and Ceron Rolle for the posts of assistant secretary general and vice president respectively, for the Bahamas Olympic Committee’s election of officers.
The elections will be held at 7pm on Thursday in the Paul Farquharson Auditorium at the Royal Bahamas Police Force headquarters during their annual general meeting (AGM).
“These are two of our hard working executives, both of whom we strongly believe would add value to the Bahamas Olympic Committee,” said BLTA’s general secretary Darnette Weir.
“The BLTA is very grateful to have both gentlemen give back to tennis in a significant way over the years.”
