ALIV sponsored and volunteered at the annual Special Olympics Bahamas Torch Run/Fun Day at the Stapledon School on Dolphin Drive held this past Saturday.
During the opening ceremony, Chief ALIV Commercial Officer Gravette Brown said ALIV believes in working with the community and has created programmes and partnered with organisations directed at areas that will have the most sustainable and positive impact on the country.
Dedicated
"Undoubtedly, fostering an environment for people with special needs is important and ALIV is dedicated to helping advance the athletic pursuits for people of all ages and backgrounds.
"The police force clearly recognises this and feels the need to support Special Olympics Bahamas as we have. The importance of an organisation such as Special Olympics Bahamas is fundamental to the growth of the country," she said.
"I too have a connection as my grandmother Sybil Blyden was the principle of this very school and advocated tremendously for those who could not do so for themselves.
"Special Olympics is a global organisation, serving more than 4.2 million athletes in 170 nations, and it is right here, at the local level, where interested athletes, families, volunteers and supporters come together to promote health and fitness, change lives, and create communities of inclusion and acceptance."
Special Olympics Bahamas President Gilbert Williams said ALIV's corporate sponsorship was integral for the day to be such a success.
"We are so happy to have corporate sponsorship, ALIV especially, as they sponsored us last year and again this year. Without their assistance, none of this would be possible and to have them sponsor and be here today is just wonderful," he said. "We appreciate the help and always look forward to have ALIV with us."
Following the Torch Run which was led by The Royal Bahamas Police Force, the day was filled with games such as basketball, dominoes, connect four, bingo, food, music and dancing.
