AN historic night for Travis Munnings highlighted the weekend for Bahamian players in NCAA Division I basketball.

Munnings posted a monster stat line with a game high 26 points and a career high 20 rebounds in his ULM Warhawks' 66-64 win over Georgia Southern.

He shot 9-17 from the field, including 5-9 from three-point range and added three steals en route to recording his second double double of the season and 13th of his career.

Munnings, who scored 14 of those points in the first half, became the 37th player in school history to score 1,000 points when he made a three with 17:40 left to play in the first half.

"Travis Munnings played like a warrior for the entire 45 minutes," Warhawks head coach Keith Richard said. "Travis made some big shots and he also came up big in the rebounding department, and he grabbed a lot of them."

There were 10 ties and 13 lead changes in the game, and the largest lead for either team was only five points. It was the first road win of the season for the struggling Warhawks.

"It was a great scene in our locker room," Richard said. "We needed to celebrate our first road win of the season, and this is a place where not very many visiting teams come away with a win. I'm proud of the team's performance. It's tough to win on the road. So, you have to make plays, especially on the road and in close games. We played solid, unbelievable defense throughout the game, and we just need to find some offense to close out the game."

The Warhawks completed the road sweep two nights later with a win in another overtime thriller, 90-82 over the Georgia State Panthers to end the team's 10-game win streak.

Munnings finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists on 4-8 shooting from three point range.

"Once again, Travis Munnings played like a warrior," Richard said. "He played all 45 minutes and nearly posted another double-double. He hit a big 3 in overtime to make it a two-possession game. Travis played very well on this road trip

The Warhawks improved to 11-12, 5-7 in Sun Belt conference play.

Munnings capped a 9-0 run midway through the first half with his three to take a 17-7 lead. They led 47-36 at the half. ULM improved to 7-0 on the season when shooting 50 percent or better from the field.

"It was a physically heroic effort; playing two overtime games in three days. Our players fought tooth and nail and found a way to win the game.

"We've won four of our last five games, so we're doing something right," Richard continued. "The season is a journey; a journey to find a way to play your best basketball. It was a great road trip, and we're playing our best basketball of the season during the second half of the league schedule."
