POLICE on Wednesday issued a sketch of a woman believed to be responsible for the abduction of three-year-old Shavar Bain Jr over the weekend.

A statement was circulated around 1:30pm alongside calls for the public’s assistance with any information that could help them identify the suspect.

Shavar Jr was taken from outside his home at South Beach Estates as he rode a bicycle shortly before 6pm Saturday.

A witness to the abduction said he saw the child taken off his bicycle by two women, who put him in their car and sped away from the scene.

The toddler was dropped off outside of the Sunrise Wash house at the intersection of Fox Hill and Joe Farrington Roads shortly after 7am Sunday.

While very little is known about the woman police are looking for, she is described as heavy built with a light brown complexion.

Reports over the weekend highlighted the use of silver car at both the scene of the abduction and the location where young Shavar Jr was dropped off.

No other details related to the case have been made public.

Police have come under fire from members of child’s family who have alleged that they were violated and, in the case of his father, beaten by officers.

In a interview with The Tribune earlier this week, Shavar Jr’s mother Dwaynira Thurston, accused authorities of beating her boyfriend in the hours their son was missing.

According to Ms Thurston, Shavar Bain Sr believes the beating was more severe because the officer delivering most of the blows were also allegedly drinking alcohol.

Up to Monday she said he was complaining of chest pains and other injuries from the abuse suffered while in custody.

The family has filed a case with the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Complaints and Corruption Unit.
