THE University of the Bahamas Mingoes and Breezes High Flyers scored wins in New Providence Basketball Association play on Monday night.

DIVISION II

Breezes High Flyers - 94

Devonte Gibson led the defending champions with a dominant 25-point, 19-rebound performance to pace four High Flyers in double figures.

Dave Davis also posted a double double with 19 points and 16 rebounds, Brendon Stubbs scored 18 and Dario Saunders finished with 13 points.

Shanton Pratt stuffed the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds and a game high eight assists.

Savant Laing led the Titans with a game high 26 points, Delmar Hamilton scored 15 and Dewhone Murray scored 10 with 11 rebounds.

The High Flyers made just two shots from beyond the arc but dominated the interior with a 54-28 advantage on points in the paint. They shot 45 per cent from the field and outrebounded the Titans by 13. Trailing by one midway through the first at 12-11, Breezes ended the period on a 13-7 run. They led 24-18 headed into the second and 46-32 at the half.

The Titans won the third by one, but never threatened in the fourth and would only come as close as nine.

DIVISION I

UB Mingoes – 81

After a disappointing finish at last week’s JU Basketball Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida, the Mingoes returned to their winning ways as one of the top teams in the NPBA.

Justin Smith scored a team high 21 for the Mingoes with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Antwan Bevans scored 20 and grabbed seven rebounds, Rashad Sturrup scored 11 with eight rebounds and Tyrone Sands Jr scored 10.

Colton Albury scored a game high 25 to lead the Pros, Derrick Ferguson scored 16 and Chico Francis added a double double - 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Albury’s jumper gave the Pros a 76-75 lead with 2:21 left to play but the Mingoes closed the game on a 6-0 run. Bevans scored the go-ahead jumper on the ensuing possession. Smith made a jumper and 2-3 at the free throw lone down the stretch to seal the win.

The Mingoes recovered from a sluggish start where they were outscored 18-7 in the opening quarter. The Pros would go on to take a 44-29 lead at the half.

UB opened the third on a 12-2 run, capped by a Smith three-pointer to make the score 46-41. The Titans pushed the lead back to seven before the Mingoes closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to trail 60-59 headed into the fourth quarter.
