Consolidated Water (CWCO) Bahamas has made a donation to the Royal Bahamas Police Force Dependents’ Trust to help the school-age children of officers who died or were injured on duty.
Maria C Johnson, the trust’s administrative assistant, said the funds donated will go mostly towards tuition. “The trust has been established to assist the continued education of dependents up to age 18,” she said.
“Sometimes it goes beyond that, and the trust will offer financial assistance during college for dependents as well. It’s all about helping our own Bahamian people. It’s funded through the generosity of corporate citizens like CWCO, individuals and the founder.
“The trust is a worthy cause. It is helping the loved ones of those who help us every day – some of whom have died protecting us as citizens. The police force is quite an interesting operation. We on the outside don’t know the half of it.”
Consolidated Water is a long-time sponsor of the trust. Bryan Russell, its Bahamas general manager, said: “We’ve supported them [the trust] the best we can. We’re happy to be a part of it because often people want to complain about crime and the police without understanding what they go through. They provide an extremely valuable service for our community, and without them there would be anarchy.”
