THE NCAA Division I baseball season is underway and several Bahamian players were key in weekend sweeps for their respective teams.

Cole Dubet was back in the starting lineups for the St Louis Billikens and helped the team complete a three-game sweep over the Chicago State Cougars.

The senior second baseman went 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored in the series finale, an 8-3 win Sunday.

St Louis brought their record to .500 at 9-9 for the season.

Dubet hit .455 for the series with four RBI and scored twice.

In game two, a 7-5 win Saturday afternoon, Dubet went 2-3 at the plate. He also had a season high three RBI with one run scored. He opened the series 1-4 in a 7-3 win.

The Billikens look to protect home field with a two-game series againt Illinois State on Tuesday and Wednesday before a weekend series against the Dayton Flyers.

BJ Murray and the FAU Owls opened Conference-USA play with a sweep over Rice.

Murray, the freshman third baseman, went 1-4 with one run scored and one RBI in a 12-4 win Sunday to close out the series. The Owls are now on an eight-game winning streak.

FAU now goes on a four-game road trip beginning Tuesday when they take on Florida Gulf Coast before the weekend’s three-game series against the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers.

Tevin Symonette and the Lipscomb Bison finished 1-2 in their series against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Symonette drove in two RBI but his team’s comeback effort fell just short in a 7-6 loss Sunday. The Bison are now 10-8 on the season.

The senior outfielder opened the series hitless in a 14-3 loss before the team bounced back to win their lone game of the series. He finished 2-4, with two runs scored and two RBI in a 9-3 win on Saturday.

Lipscomb would come back in the top of the fifth and score three runs, all with two outs, thanks to a two-RBI double off the top of the wall in left centre by Tevin Symonette, plating Haddon Adams and Jarrett O’Leary.

Senior Zeke Dodson would follow Symonette with a double of his own to put the Bisons on top 3-1.

Lipscomb returns to the field March 19 against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.

Allbry Major and the Xavier Musketeers are in the midst of a four-game losing streak. He finished 1-2 at the plate in Sunday’s 6-4 loss to New Mexico State as the Musketeers continued their road trip.

Xavier previously lost 3-4 games to Grand Canyon University in a series that concluded last weekend.

In a 25-18 loss, Major was 3-5, scored three runs with one RBI, and in a 7-2 loss he finished 1-3 with one run and one RBI.

Ellison Hanna and the Indiana State Sycamores continue their best start to a season in programme history.

The Sycamores are now 16-1 following a three-game sweep of the Citadel Bulldogs. The Sycamores will play host to the Indiana Hoosiers at 4pm today.
