A PAIR of Bahamian players were recognised by CONCACAF among the best in the region following the latest round of Nations League Play.
Forward Lesly St Fleur and goalkeeper Dwayne Whylly were named to the CONCACAF Nations League Team of the Week when the organisation announced its list of awards.
Other members of the team included Rashad Jules, Zico Phillips and Omani Leacock from Barbados, Alejandro Galindo from Argentina, Billy Forbes from Turks and Caicos, Jose Ferrer from Puerto Rico, Rilove Janga and Jurven Koffy from Bonaire and Gerwin Lake of St Maarten.
Both St Fleur and Whylly were key factors in the Bahamas’ improvement to 2-0 in League C, Group B with their recent win over the British Virgin Islands.
St Fleur scored a pair of goals (37’, 49’).
And Whylly kept a clean sheet as the Bahamas took to the road and blanked the British Virgin Islands 4-0 at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis. Happy Hall (55’) added the third .
And Quinton Carey (81’) scored the final goal late to finish off the scoring in the game.
Whylly got his first of several saves in goal when he deflected a shot from BVI’s Bailey Rowe midway through the first and repeatedly stifled BVI scoring opportunities.
BVI’s Jerry Wiltshire committed a foul on St Fleur who went on to convert the penalty kick to give the Bahamas a 1-0 lead that they took into the half.
The Bahamas dominated the second half and tacked on to their lead with the three-goal margin.
St Fleur scored his second goal shortly after the start of the second as the momentum for the Bahamians continued out of the break.
The Bahamas has defeated both teams in their group after their 2-1 win over Bonaire at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in September.
Group B play continues this month when the Bahamas hosts BVI on November 14. They travel to face Bonaire in the second game of a home-and-away on November 17.
