25 new cases of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that there are 25 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The breakdown of new cases for each island was unable to be produced at the time of this report due to Hurricane Isaias.

The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 599 with 492 of those active. There have been 14 deaths and 19 cases are in hospital.

Health officials are reminding the public to practice the following measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Wear a face mask when you leave home;

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and if soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 70% alcohol;

• Cover your cough or sneeze in your inner elbow or with a tissue; and

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as phones, remotes controls, counters, doorknobs, and keyboards.

You would think with the very active ongoing hurricane season along with Florida being the NEW epicenter of the Chinese Virus, the "competent authority" and his "Yes Men" would use their shrivelled-up brains and come to the conclusion that maybe opening our borders up to the U.S isn't a good idea.. Hundreds of D- citizens are cooped up in a hurricane shelter where the Chinese Virus is having its way with them without them even knowing it, and this is only a category 1 storm!

Lord help us all if we have to deal with another Dorian along with the current Category 5 storm thats been terrorising us since 2017, also known as "Minnis"!!!

The main and principal reason this virus is spreading like this is simply because Bahamians ARE NOT following safety protocols right in front of our illustrious police force with immunity because they know they will NOT be made to face the consequences for their bold, brazen sheer stupidity coupled with the fact that if the police actually enforce the law, then the courts give you a tongue lashing and send you back into the streets to carry on as before. It is this loose, party all the time society we dwell in is what's causing this virulent spread of this fatal disease.

... it does not help that you cannot import proper face masks without the permission of the competent authority, so everybody wearing poorly fitting cloth masks below their noses, while they fail to use common sense to reduce the spread of the virus (people still going to the grocery store in groups and taking children there, driving around with friends etc.)

if we don't look at the problem holistically nothing will get solved.

You mentioned driving around with friends, but businesses are open and buses are off the road. Alot of people catching ride. So what you gonna do? sit in 90+ degree weather with the windows down while you give your friend/coworker/neighbour a ride? Will they outlaw catching a ride and make people walk to work? Secondly it is statistically impossible that if the virus is crossing the border it's only being brought by Bahamians, it's literally impossible. Isnt it in the realm of possibilities that that returning bahamian came in contact with an infected tourist on the return flight home? Tourist asymptomatic, leaves in 3 days.

We heard about 4200 Bahamians travelling but nobody gave any information on the number of tourists by boat and plane. The number who falsified tests, had the wrong test or no test.

If we ignore possible routes of infection in our zeal to blame everything on hard headed Bahamians who dont wash their hands or wear masks it means the virus continues to have hidden in plane sight paths around our protections

"in plain sight"... but maybe "in plane sight" works even better

Just how can you be so unintelligent??? Honestly. Bahamians (the loose, partying set you decry) had beaten this virus down to FOUR active cases, before the Moron administration decided to open the borders to the epicentre of the virus in Florida. Yet it's the people's fault????

Is there any reason why they are so hurry to open schools with the amount of cases we're getting everyday, I mean how is it possible you can stop a mass body of children to practice social distance, and even so the teachers how we as parents should feel safe to know that our lil ones are actually safe while they are out of our presence

How many cases of the common cold and other strains of influenza have been reported since the start of 2020 in The Bahamas??? They can all kill the infirm and those with serious ailments if untreated....
