THE 36th Hugh Campbell Basketball Classic is all set to get underway today at the AF Adderley Gymnasium, featuring 24 teams in four pools.
Over 40 games over the course of the week will lead to the championship finale on Monday, February 24 to decide the title holder of one of the longest running and most prestigious senior boys basketball tournaments in the country.
The defending tournament champion Dame Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins, fresh off their second consecutive GSSSA championship, will now turn their focus to repeating at Hugh Campbell and will head Pool One. The remainder of the group includes the Sir Jack Hayward Wildcats, CR Walker Knights, RM Bailey Pacers, Moore’s Island and Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves.
Pool two will be headed by last year’s runners-up and the reigning national champion St George’s Jaguars.
The BAISS champion Queen’s College Comets, Temple Christian Suns, Jordan Prince William Falcons, Eight Mile Rock Bluejays and Galilee round out Pool Two.
Pool three will be headed by the Sunland Stingers, runners up in the Grand Bahama Secondary School Athletic Association.
The remainder of the pool includes the Government High School Magic, St John’s College Giants, Charles W Saunders Cougars, Akephran and CC Sweeting Cobras.
Pool four is the most talented of the group with the GSSSA runners up, the CI Gibson Rattlers and the GBSSAA Tabernacle Baptist Falcons, the Mt Carmel Cavaliers, CV Bethel Stingrays, Kingsway Academy Saints and Gateway Eagles.
