I was amazed by Pinder comments

EDITOR, The Tribune

I am amazed at the comments made by the Director of Labour, John Pinder, regarding the conditions put forward for the issuing or renewal of Visas (work permits I guess).

I have a permit for a gardener from Haiti and I would like Mr. Pinder to please send me Bahamians I can apprentice to my gardener to train in the care of my garden!

I would also like to comment on the charge for plastic bags levied by the Government. When travelling to other countries in the world during the last five years or so, in many countries, especially in Europe, whenever I have made a purchase in a grocery or other store I have been charged a fee for a bag if I request one. It is about time we did it to curtail the use of these bags.

When travelling from Treasure Cay to Marsh Harbour the other day I looked out at the ponds in the area of Hill Creek and was amazed, and disgusted, to see the amount of plastic bags hung up in the mangroves and shoreline of these ponds. They are in an area that will never be cleaned so we will have to see them, and wait a lifetime for them to disappear.
