FOLLOWING last month’s home triumph at the FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers, several men’s national basketball team players returned to the professional circuit and continued that momentum with their respective clubs.
David Nesbitt continues his career in Brazil’s pro basketball league, the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) with a new club - Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.
Nesbitt finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, both season highs in his team’s 89-80 loss to São Paulo. He also added three steals and went a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line. Through 23 games this season, Nesbitt is averaging 12.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
In 37 games for Flamengo Basketball Club last season, Nesbitt averaged 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in just over 17 minutes per game en route to the team claiming the league title in a five-game series over Sesi Franca BC in May.
Travis Munnings also posted a double double for La Rochelle Stade Rochelais of France’s NM1 League, the third-tier division of basketball in the country.
He finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in his team’s upset win over second ranked Tours. Stade Rochelais Basket (10-16) is the 13th ranked team in Group A. On the season, Munnings is averaging 14.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He is also a Bahamas national team player.
Munnings originally signed with ADA Blois Basket 41 of the France - ProB League - the second tier division in July, but was released at the end of the preseason in September before he played a single game.
Shaquille Cleare helped his Actel Forca Lleida split their last two outings in Spain’s Liga Española de Baloncesto – Gold, the second division in the country’s basketball system. He finished with eight points and five rebounds in 24 minutes of a 67-55 loss to HLA Alicante.
The club rebounded with a 78-67 win over league leader Carramimbre. Cleare scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 27 minutes. Actel Forca Lleida improved to 9-15).
In 24 games this season, Cleare is averaging 11.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Kino Burrows and Aix-Maurienne Savoie fell to 8-14 after a 78-76 loss to the second ranked Quimper UJAP (17-5) in the French ProB League. He finished with eight points and six rebounds in 29 minutes. It was Aix-Maurienne’s sixth consecutive loss in a row.
Through 21 games, Burrows is currently averaging 13.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game in his first season with Aix-Maurienne Savoie in the French LNB Pro League.
Burrows signed with Aix after he spent the previous two seasons in France with Fos-Sue-Mer Byers.
