Nortmann re-signs with new club in Iceland

MEN’S senior national basketball team member Robert Nortmann re-signed in Iceland for another year with a new club.

The 32-year-old veteran forward will join Fjolnir Reykjavik of Iceland’s Division I. It will mark his second season in the country’s top division after he spent last season with Sindiri. In nine games with the club he averaged 16.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Prior to Iceland, he competed for the Guelph Nighthawks in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

The nine-year veteran has played professionally across three continents, including stints in Australia (Maitland Mustangs), Germany (Gladiators and Walter Tigers), Italy (Francavilla) and Canada (Halifax Rainmen, Island Storm and Windsor Express).

The former Dalhousie Tiger was a member of the programme’s Atlantic University Sport’s Tournament championship winning teams in 2009 and 2011.

Nortmann was also voted All-AUS 2nd Team back in 2012. Prior to his time in Australia, Nortmann was in camp with the Raptors 905 NBA D-League team and also served as a development player for the Harlem Globetrotters.

At the national team level, Nortmann has competed for The Bahamas at various tournaments in recent years.

He made his national team debut in 2018 as the Bahamas competed in Group D of the first two windows at the FIBA Basketball World Cup – Americas Qualifiers, both at home and in the Dominican Republic. He also represented Bahamas at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, where the team finished sixth.
