A 26-year-old man who admitted damaging his neighbour’s tyre during an ongoing dispute was fined $100 and ordered to reimburse the man for his damaged property.
Christopher Hanna appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain after he was accused of damaging the tyre of Gino Moss’ 2002 Honda Fit on September 21.
The court heard that Hanna and Mr Moss are neighbours. The prosecution said on the day in question, Mr Moss went outside and saw the defendant kneeling by one of his car’s tyres and letting the air out of it. Mr Moss said when he assessed his car he discovered the tyre Hanna had tampered with was damaged.
When given an opportunity to speak, Hanna said he damaged Mr Moss’ car because the complainant had thrown rocks at his house and cracked his windshield.
After pleading guilty to one count of damage, he was fined $100 or seven days at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services. He was further ordered to compensate Mr Moss $75 for the damaged tyre. If he doesn’t, Magistrate Swain said he could risk spending an additional week in prison.
Mr Moss also appeared before Magistrate Swain after he was accused of threatening to harm Hanna. He denied the allegation and the matter was adjourned to November 13 for trial.
He was granted $1,000 bail in the interim.
