A FREEPORT couple was arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition yesterday.

Superintendent of the Police Terecita Pinder reported that the arrest was made shortly after 2am on Tuesday by officers of Northeastern Division and Rapid Response Unit.

Officers, acting on information, executed a search warrant at a residence on Cromwell Drive, where a black Smith and Wesson .40 pistol with six live rounds of .40 ammunition and one .40 hollowed tip ammunition were found hidden in a bedroom.

As a result, a man and a woman who reside in the residence was arrested and taken into police custody.

Police also discovered a firearm and ammunition in the Williams Town’s area on Easter Monday.

Supt Pinder reported that officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit were on mobile patrol shortly after 9pm when they observed a group of men congregating in the area of the public rest rooms.

She said the men looked into the direction of the police vehicle and quickly dispersed. Officers searched the area where the young men were and discovered on the western side of the building, inside a concrete water metre box, a black .380 Glock pistol with four unfired hollow tip ammunition.

No arrest was made in connection with the matter.

In a another matter, a Freeport man was arrested after police searched a residence and found suspected marijuana.

According to reports, officers of the Flying Squad, acting on information, went to a residence on Drake Avenue on Monday shortly before 5pm to execute a search warrant.

Supt Pinder said the male resident attempted to flee but was caught by officers.

The male suspect was searched by officers who allegedly found a plastic bag, containing suspected marijuana and cash. Officers then searched the home and discovered in a bedroom a quantity of suspected marijuana hidden in the air mattress.

As a result, the man was arrested and taken into police custody.
